Margaret Lucille Dunn was born on July 7, 1943 in West Hartford, CT to her loving parents, George and Mary Dunn. Lucille, as she was known to many, grew up in on the East Coast, spending a majority of her time at the beach in Niantic, CT. Upon graduating high school, Lucille decided she would go to an office building in Hartford and see which law office was hiring for a secretary. It just so happened the law office she entered that day had a secretary going on leave, and Lucille was hired. She was just 18 years old.
Lucille's sisters were coming to Colorado, and the three of them couldn't stand to be that far from each other, so Lucille came to Colorful Colorado to be close to her tight knit family. She worked as a legal secretary, a career she was very proud of, until her retirement, often being seen as brilliant by those who employed her. Lucille could tell you everything you needed to know about legal questions you might ask, and her vast knowledge and expertise was considered the back bone of where she worked.
She wasn't just considered brilliant at work, she was also considered brilliant by family and friends alike. You see Lucille had an ididic memory which meant that she could remember the smallest details of things, even from long ago, like when her grandparents would talk about their Scots/Irish family immigating to the Unites States. You could ask Lucille all you wanted to about her family and she could tell you who came when and how. Her family will miss her family history lessons.
That brilliance also carried over to her quick wit and sense of humor. She was known to crack a good enough one that some people who couldn't pick up on social ques would have thought she was serious, leaving her family and friends in stitches. It was all in good fun of course, because Lucille was compassionate to all. But it was hard to tell whether she was being serious or not because her smile never came off of her face. She always had a smile on her face.
When Lucille wasn't working, telling family history stories, or telling jokes, you could find her taking a walk, swimming, or simply enjoying time with her fur babies and family. Lucille loved to talk long walks, many times she could be found taking 5 mile walks with one of her beloved dogs. You could have also given her gills and she would have been happy, as she was most at home in the water, especially at her favorite vacation spot in Nicantic. She also just really loved being with her family, her two sisters, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and her animals. It was common place to find her calling her pet cockatiel who would walk through the house to greet her, or feeding her dogs (and the cockatiel) Cream of Wheat.
But the most important thing you could find Lucille doing was being kind to everyone. She had a major sense of compassion for both animals and humans. She was always sincerely smiling, so that one knew you could approach her without reproach, and she was always rooting for the underdog. It's not a normal thing for care takers at nursing homes to feel loved by their patients, but Lucille, even on her worst days, wanted to make sure they were treated with kindness. She would ask about their day and their families, and what was new, even if she couldn't breath, or didn't feel well. Many of her friends, family, and nurses would consider Lucille an angel on earth, because her kindness was so rare.
Lucille passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024 in Westminster, Colorado. She was 80 years old. She joins her parents, Mary and George.
