Margaret grew up in Colorado during the Great Depression. As the next-to-youngest child in a large family, she was sometimes sent by her mother to live with extended family members so she would be well cared for during difficult economic times. She held particularly fond memories of living with her Aunt May in New Orleans, Louisiana, before eventually returning to Colorado. She graduated from East High School in Denver.
One fateful day, Margaret met her future husband, Dean Hopkins, while he was an instructor at Lowry Airforce Base near Denver. Together, they raised three beautiful children and shared 52 years of loving marriage before Dean’s passing.
As a devoted mother, Margaret raised her children at home until they had all grown up. Then, she worked as a letter carrier for the US Post Office until her retirement. Even then, her steady devotion to others continued through short-term jobs and volunteering for several years with a senior support organization, remaining a long-time supporter of several charities.
Throughout her life, Margaret’s care for others showed in both everyday kindness and faithful commitment. She loved animals and helped her children care for several family pets. She enjoyed reading, and she took particular pleasure in solving crossword and logic puzzles. As a lover of music, she passed this love down to her children. She also loved traveling, counting among her favorite experiences a cruise to Hawaii with her older sister Shirley “Midge” Gamble, and months of training to participate in a bicycle tour of southern Ireland. A faithful believer in Christ, Margaret was known for her compassion and her willingness to help whenever asked.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Hopkins; her parents, Albert Kline and Rose Kline (Koch); her sisters, Shirley “Midge” Gamble, Doris Rice, and Alberta Kelley; and her brothers, Harry Kline, Irving “Lee” Kline, and David Kline.
Margaret is survived by her son, Robert Hopkins; her daughter, Brenda Letey, her husband Mike Letey, and grandchildren Ariel, Bella, and Kristi; her daughter, Jill Hopkins; her sister-in-law, Ginger Kline; her sister-in-law, Janice Wilson (Hopkins); and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and their families.
A Funeral Service will be held at Advantage Runyan-Stevenson, 6425 West Alameda Ave, Lakewood, CO 80226, on October 13, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.
