

Mary, or Marlene as she was also known, was raised on a farm outside of Morrill, Nebraska and a proud graduate of Sunflower High School. Mary went on to earn her teaching certificate from Kearney State Teacher’s College and a BA in teaching from Colorado State College of Education (now UNC) in 1960.
She married James Hastert in July 1960 and shared 52 wonderful years together. After time in White Sands Missile Range, NM and Terre Haute, IN they moved to Colorado in 1964.
She taught elementary school in Jefferson County for 12 years, the majority of the time at Governor’s Ranch in Littleton, where she retired (in 1999)
Mary was an excellent cook and hostess, enjoyed playing bridge and scrapbooking, and devoted countless hours to volunteering at Christ on the Mountain Catholic church. She also enjoyed traveling the world with Jim. However, her greatest passion was her grandchildren and much of her time was devoted to attending their activities.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, daughter Trish Duggan (husband Dan), grandchildren Eric and Kate, daughter Ann, son Brian, grandchildren Kirsten, Josh and Jessie, and son Steven ( wife Jennifer), grandchildren Lauren, Nathan and Elizabeth.
