Nicholas William Szathmary was born on November 19, 1997 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado to proud parents, Elizabeth and Peter Szathmary. He was soon joined by his sisters, Victoria and Alexandra. Nicholas fell in love with Lilly Young and they were married on August 17, 2023.
He attended D'Evelyn High School and was working on finishing his degree at Colorado State University. Nicolas could cook a mean chicken and liked trying new foods, for the most part as he could be a picky eater. He was passionate about sports, including football, baseball and golf. That passion was shared with his dad, Peter, who coached many of Nicholas' sports teams while he was in school. He also loved to relax by gaming on Steam.
Nicholas had a special quality that is hard to come by these days - he could show compassion to everyone he met, and would immediately make a friend of them. It didn't matter if he was at the grocery store, a family function, or just out and about. He was a loving soul and everyone really mattered to him. His sisters are most proud of his relationship with them and Lilly.
Nicholas also loved animals. His cats that he shared with Lilly, Coco and Minnie - or Loaf as Nicholas called her, were spoiled by him. Much to Lilly's chagrin he also came home with Pearl the black lab, Nicholas' emotional support dog. She too was spoiled.
At the age of 26 on December 5, 2023 Nicholas passed away suddenly. He is deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Elizabeth and Peter; wife, Lilly; sisters, Victoria and Alexandra; parents in law, Mark and Becky; grandmothers, Bonnie, Ginger and Mildred; as well as many extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life and Scripture Service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 10AM at Advantage Runyan Stevenson in Lakewood.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nicholas' memory may be made to National Youth Sports Group, via the link below.
