Robert, aka Rabbit, was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado and grew up in La Junta. He was very fond of the nickname “Rabbit”, given to him as a young boy due to his small stature and speed. He was an optimist, a fighter and a survivor all his life. He had this faith about him that no matter what, everything would turn out good. After graduating from La Junta High School Bob worked for the Union Pacific Rail Road for a short time and then enlisted in the United States Navy, October 26, 1942. He was a Corpsman on the USS Solace during WWII. Bob met the love of his life, Mary Jeannette McCuistion in 1945 and married her July 18, 1947. Bob and Mary soon built a family of five children and committed their life to raising them.

Bob was an active member of his church, a proud Mason and fully enjoyed being a Shriner. His favorite activities included bowling, pool and playing golf. Mary learned to play golf early in their marriage to share his passion. He was extremely proud to serve in the United States Navy. He was swollen with pride of all his children, grand children and great grand children and so happy to share his birth date with his great-grandson Lincoln. Bob was 92 and Lincoln 2 years old on October 3rd.

Bob was an inwardly strong yet kind-hearted man with a great deal of dignity. He lived a good and meaningful life and lived it well. He will be greatly missed.

Preceding him in death his loving wife, Mary. He is survived by his five children daughters, Patricia Wicker (Joe), Beverly Samek (Steve), Susan Reimer (Don); sons, Gary Berndt, Craig Berndt (Sue); grandchildren, Kevin Jones (Heather), Kristin Dodson (Casey), Crystal Winans (Josh), Cassie Wermers (Shayne), Aaron Berndt, Ali Ternan (Adam), Matthew Samek (Jenna), Nathan Samek, Ashley Samek, Nicole Smith (Chris), Ryan Schneider, Jordan Berndt, Don Michael Reimer (Amy), Natasha Reimer, ; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Jones, Emily Jones, Madelyn Jones, Owen Dodson, Beckett Dodson, Oliver Smith, Colin Smith, Stella Ternan, Lincoln Ternan, Dillon Schneider, Casey Schneider, Jyah Reimer and Jace Reimer.

Public Viewing: November 10, 2016, 1 pm to 5 pm at Advantage Funeral Home, 6425 West Alameda Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado 80226

Memorial Service: November 11, 2016, 9:30 am, Atonement Lutheran Church, 6281 West Yale Ave., Lakewood, Colorado 80227

Burial-Grave side Service: Fowler Cemetery, Fowler, Colorado, 3:00 pm Family and friends will leave the church approximately 12 noon to travel to Fowler.
