LAKEWOOD – Robert Louis Hinz, 78, died peacefully with family by his side at St Anthony Hospital on December 6, 2015 from complications following a brief cardiac event.
Bob was born April 24, 1937 in Horton, Kansas the first son of Louis A. and Lola Roush Hinz. He attended elementary school in Horton, built a super soap box derby car, and enjoyed free time on his grandfather’s farm. He graduated from Bird City High School in 1955, attended Pittsburg State University, and married Glenda M. Hilty in 1956. To this union two children were born. Melany in 1957 and Truitt in 1958. Settling in northwest Kansas, he built a home for his in-laws and opened Bob’s Cabinet Shop in 1964. In August 1968 he packed up the family, moved to Colorado, and went to work for Custom Wood Products, creating and building beautiful bank interiors from teak and walnut. Bob was born to be a master woodcrafter as he built his first piece of furniture at the age of 7 – a bookcase which survives to this day.
While country dancing in 1989, Bob met Kathleen (Kate) Holley Cissell. Bob and Kate married on August 12, 2000 in Seeley Lake, MT with members of Bob’s family, and including Kate’s children Tanya Cissell and Nick Cissell. In Lakewood Bob continued his beautiful craftsmanship by building their lovely home and wood shop. They enjoyed Bob’s abundant garden, traveling in their RV, and sharing time with family and friends.
Throughout Bob’s life, this quiet and loving man enjoyed the great outdoors; hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed a good story, a good laugh, country music, Boy Scouts of America and was proud to have played football for the 1953 Bird City Cardinals undefeated, un-scored upon team.
