Stanley Earl John, born on May 29, 1954, in Denver, Colorado, passed away September 25, 2025, at the age of 71. He was a resident of Lakewood, Colorado, where he lived for many years with his wife and family.
Stanley’s lively sense of humor was a quality that endeared him to many people. He was always ready with a pun or joke for family, friends, colleagues, and new acquaintances alike. He loved to make people laugh.
A Colorado native, Stanley grew up in southwest Denver, graduating from Lincoln High School. He earned an associate’s degree from Arapahoe Community College, working as a computer programmer and in technical support throughout his career.
His interest in trains and photography led him to visit museums and chase the Union Pacific 4014 “Big Boy” through parts of Nebraska and Colorado, seeking that unique picture of the engine, also dabbling in portraiture, sports photography, and other natural beauty. An early interest in sailing resulted in time spent with his wife, Evelyn, on Chatfield Reservoir “in irons” when there was no wind, bouncing around the lake like a cork. But when a good breeze came up, he was in his element.
An avid baseball fan, Stanley became a loyal fan of the Kansas City Royals before there was a major league team in Denver. Over the years, he attended baseball games in Kansas City, accompanied by his family and friends. In later years, he and Evelyn trekked to the Phoenix area for Spring Training games.
Stanley enjoyed jogging, tennis, bicycling, and swimming, the latter a carryover from being a lifeguard in his high school days. He loved to run in 5K races like the Turkey Trot, Freedom Run, and the Evergreen Town Race. He also completed a half marathon from Georgetown to Idaho Springs and the Boulder “Peak” Triathlon.
Stanley enjoyed traveling; whether it was a short trip to the Colorado mountains or a longer trip to Europe, he loved being anywhere with his wife and children. Many national parks were visited after Spring Training baseball, others on trips coast to coast and to Hawaii. More than anything, Stanley loved his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Elizabeth John, son Kevin, and daughter Caroline. He leaves behind his wife Evelyn John, daughter Kelly John, and many more friends and family who will continue to carry Stanley's sense of adventure as they embark on the unknown and unfamiliar journey in front of them.
Rest in peace, Stanley. You are deeply missed and never forgotten.
