

Anthony Martin Dunham, Jr. better known as “Tony,” passed away October 12, 2011. Born in Los Angeles, CA and lived all his life in Lakewood, NJ. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Tony was a communicant of St. Mary of the Lake Church. Mr. Dunham was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. He retired from the Suburban Propane Company, in Howell, NJ in 1988. He also was employed with modern Gas in Lakewood and served on the facility staff in Georgian Court College. Anthony loved spending time in his yard, gardening, telling stories from years past, watching NASCAR, and cooking up new recipes. His biggest joy in life was volunteering with the Lakewood Fire Department, there he was a member of the Reliance Hose Co # 4 since 1960, some of the titles and accomplishments that he achieved while volunteering are active reserves in 1967, active in 1970, secretary in 1974, vice president in 1975, president from 1975-1977, second lieutenant from 1979-1981 and 1991-1993, first lieutenant from 1981- 1983 and 1993-1995, captain from 1983-1985 and 1995-1997, second assistant chief from 1998- 2000, first assistant chief from 2000-2002, chief from 2002-2004, board of fire commissioners from 1996-1999, member of fireman’s relief association, life member of the exempt’s association, life member of the fireman’s association, member of the Chief’s Association, and current active member. Mr. Dunham was also a honorary member of the Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Department. He served for an amazing 51 years for the Lakewood Fire Department. Mr. Dunham is predeceased by parents Gladys and Anthony, a brother, Frank, and granddaughter, Kimberly. Anthony is survived by his wife of 65 years, June, two daughters, Kathy and her husband Jay, and Nancy, three grandchildren, Michael, and his wife Jen, Chris and his wife Megan, and Jennifer and her husband Rob, four great grandchildren, Michelle, Shealyn, Julia, and Kian, and many loving friends. Tony may not be with us but he will be in our hearts and lives every day. Visitation will be Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the D’Elia Funeral Home Route 70 & Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Fireman’s Services will be held Sunday at 7:30PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011 at St. Mary of the Lake Church 43 Madison Ave, Lakewood, NJ 08701 at 12 Noon. Burial will follow at the St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery in Lakewood. At this time the family would like to say “Thank You” to all those who helped us get through a very difficult time.
