LAKEWOOD – ARTHUR W. GHEZZI, 70, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2015. Born in Brooklyn, Artie was an outstanding, honorable and selfless gentleman dedicated to his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, friends and customers. Although humble and soft-spoken, his extraordinary work ethic was loud and clear. His children and grandchildren are blessed to have such a role model.
Artie was always proud of his service to our country. In the early 1960s, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Holy Loch, Scotland on the USS Hunley, a submarine tender. It was in Scotland where he and wife Martha started their family upon the birth of son, Arthur. He loved the Navy and enjoyed sharing stories about that special time. Upon his return to New York, Martha and Artie welcomed daughter, Kim, to their young family. A few years later, their family was complete with the addition of Michelle.
In the 1970s, Artie moved the family to Lakewood, New Jersey, where he eventually started his business, Arthur Ghezzi Appliance Service. His 40+ years of success was no accident; he could fix anything. More importantly, Artie ran an honest business. His loyal customers more than relied upon and respected him, they adored him. In the little spare time he had, Artie enjoyed powerboating, fishing, vacationing in the Caribbean, listening to his 50s music, long car rides, dreaming of bowling a 300, and most of all, being around his family.
Artie is survived by Martha, his wife of 52 years, his son Arthur and fiancé Christine (Freehold, NJ), daughter Kim and husband Bill (Rumson, NJ), and daughter Michelle (Toms River, NJ), as well as six grandchildren: Ryan Healey, Anthony Meulendyk, Sarah Healey, Ashley Meulendyk, Will Healey and Matt Healey.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 21, 2015, from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ. Burial will take place at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ, on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 12:30pm. For more information, or to post a tribute online, please visit www.deliafuneralhome.com.
