
Mr. Suter retired in 1985 as president and chief executive director of Ebasco Management Consultant Services, Inc., where he worked since 1957. After retirement, he served as Vice President of Stone & Webster Management Consultants of New York and as President of Stone & Webster Management Services, Ltd., of Bermuda, until 1993, when he left to work as an independent manager of several off-shore projects.
Mr. Suter has held professional designations as Professional Engineer and was a licensed management consultant, state of NY., and as a Certified Safety Professional; he was a member of the American Society of Fire Protection Engineers, Risk and Insurance Manager's Society, and the American Management Association. He was also listed in the Who's Who in Insurance, and Who's Who in Risk Management. Bruce served on several insurance company and college boards and as an adjunct professor at the New York College of Insurance. He was the author of several articles on risk management and corporate insurance administration and was a frequent speaker before professional and trade associations.
During World War II, Bruce served in the Army as a captain with the 163rd Combat Engineers. He participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, landing on Utah Beach, the construction of bridges over the Seine and Rhine rivers, and received the Bronze Star medal for exemplary conduct in ground combat.
Mr. Suter also was a recipient of the American Campaign Medal with four battle stars, the Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four battle stars; the World War II Victory Medal, and the Army Occupation Medal.
In 1984, Suter was honored by the government of France with the D-Day 50th Anniversary Commemorative Medal. He was called back to active duty in 1950 for the Korean conflict where he served as Operation Officer for the 419th Aviation Engineering Brigade.
Reared in Little Rock, Arkansas, Bruce was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Institute in 1943. Following the Korean Conflict, Bruce completed graduate studies at Tulane University, University of Mississippi and Pace College of New York. He lived in Scotch Plains, NJ for 34 years with his wife, Joan and two sons.
Surviving are Bruce's two sons, Craig Suter of Jackson Twp., NJ and Brad Suter of Gastonia, NC, together with four grandchildren, Zachary, Jessica, Grace and John.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 27th from 10:00 a.m. until 12 Noon at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, N.J. His funeral service will be held at 12 Noon in the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the BG William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ.
