Catherine "Kit" Carlough

A graduate of St. Mary's High School, Kit attended Holy Name School of Nursing and worked as an O.R. nurse at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck. She married, wore capri pants, smoked, danced, and dined with friends while bringing up her three kids in Rutherford. A soccer mom before there was such a thing, she did the PTA, was a lay minister at St. Mary's Church in Rutherford, and later in life she became a successful sales rep for the pharmceutical giant Hoffman La Roche, a wound care specialist for Knoll Pharmaceuticals and finally a substitute school nurse. In retirement, she turned "summers only" into a permanent residence at the Jersey shore and enjoyed the company of many friends and family living in Ocean Grove.

Her family will miss the visits to grandma's house that were always full of laughter, great food and spirited conversation (if sometimes overly so). Kit was fiercely proud of the people her children became, and the many accomplishments of ever single one of her grandchildren. She was known for her satorial excess (calling herself the queen of the gypsies) and dressed for the occasion even if there was no occasion. She passed down her smarts, her wit and biting sense of humor that were with her even in her final hours.

Kit was predeceased by her younger brother Carl Wallander. She is survived by her husband, Edward Carlough, her sister MaryEllen McIlvaine and her husband Ross of Somerset, as well as her three children, Michael Urciuoli and his wife Kathryn of Ocean Grove, Lauren Cherny and her husband Brant of Ocean Grove, Paul Urcioli and his wife Sasha Smith of Los Angeles and step-children Victoria Baumann of Pittsburgh and America O'Toole and her husband Timothy of Rockaway. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Michael Uriuoli and his wie Marina, Emily Uriuoli, Alyssa Cherny and her fiance Kevin Matthews, Rachel Cherny, Thomas Urcioli , Malcolm Urcioli, Owen O'Toole, Olivia Baumann, Audra O'Toole, Celia O'Toole and one great-grandson Jackson Cru Urciuoli. Kit's family would also like to acknowledge and thank Luna-mtvarisa Pilishvili who was Kit's faithful, loving, full time caregiver.

A memorial service for Kit will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to Mary's Place by the Sea in lieu of flowers. https://www.marysplacebythesea.org/
