Catherine Murphy

Born and raised in Newark, she lived in Cranford for twelve years, Oakhurst for ten years, and Leisure Village in Lakewood for 20 years before moving to Leisure Park in Lakewood eight years ago.

She worked as a switchboard operator for AT&T in Newark & Cranford for 30 years and retired in 1973. She also retired from 8 years of service at Central Toll Investing in Cranford. Catherine also worked as a receptionist for JCP&L in Allenhurst for 16 years, retiring in 1989.

Mrs. Murphy served in the Army during WWII; stationed overseas in the South West Pacific. She was a member of the VFW and a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, in 2000. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
