Most of my teachers at PRHS were truly excellent, but Mr. Beyer stood out above the rest.  Using the socratic method of teaching, he made math classes exciting and fun.  He is one reason I decided to be a math teacher, although I was nowhere near as talented or interesting as he was.  A warm and kind person as well, he truly was  very special .   I offer my sympathy to his family and friends on the loss of this well-loved man.

It was my luck and privilege  to have Mr. Beyer as a teacher, mentor, role model and friend at PRHS from 1960 to 1964.  He taught me enough to be accepted at MIT, and then encouraged me to attend.  Thank you, Mr. Beyer.

Mr. Beyer was the consummate teacher. At the beginning of each class, before the bell rang, he would write an equation on the board, walk back and rest one arm on the file cabinet, look silently at the problem on the board, and when the bell rang we would quiet down and start calling out the next step in solving the equation.  I don't think he ever disciplined us except rarely by a stern silence or a quiet reprimand--he just expected us to fly right and we did. Truly a master teacher, beloved of all--even now, by us who haven't seen him since 1969!

Clayton was a very instrumental person and leader in my life -- giving me an opportunity to teach and coach at Park Ridge.  He made Park Ridge a wonderful place to teach and go to school. It was always better when Clayton was there.

Clayton Beyer was the best teacher I ever had, bar none, and that includes the faculty at West Point and Stanford Business School.  Like John Morris' comments, I was better prepared in math than virtually all of my many valedictorian classmates at the Academy.  My one regret is that I never remained in touch with him post PRHS - nevertheless, and after all these years, he has remained the answer to one of my on-line security questions: Who was your favorite teacher? To his surviving family I would like to sincerely offer the thank you I never delivered in person on my return trips to Park Ridge over the years.  I will be making a donation as the family has requested and only hope that his example and legacy is alive among the current faculty at PRHS.  It was truly a treasure and an honor to have been one of his students.

Mr. Beyer and Mr. Burke were great math teachers.  I admired them both.

My condolences to the Clayton family.  I was a 1974 graduate of PRHS. During those times I seemed to have appeared often in Mr. Beyer's office. He was always supportive and guided me to stay on the correct side. Although, I barely graduated it was teachers like Clayton that helped me in the long run obtain a Graduate degree and full-fill a distinguished career in law enforcement.

I was so sad to hear of Mr. Beyer's passing. I remember his beaming smile all through the halls of Park Ridge HS. Thoughts and prayers to all of his family.

So sorry to hear about Mr. Beyer. I had him as Principal for my entire PRHS career. He was always ready with a smile and an encouraging word. Prayers for Mrs. Beyer and the children and grandchildren.

I am a 1965 graduate of Park Ridge High School, who had the privilege of taking several math classes from Mr. Beyer.  I never forgot him, nor his skill as a teacher.  I am an avid quilt maker and, all these years later, I still say, "Thank you Mr. Beyer for teaching me geometry," whenever I begin a new project.  My sincere sympathy to his family on the passing of a wonderful man.

I was graduated from PRHS in 1970. It was both a privilege and a great pleasure to have the highly capable John Burke and Clayton Beyer as my math teachers. Such fond memories.  I am thankful Clayton made it to 89 years.

Hello Ruth and family.  I lived across the street from you for many years in Park Ridge.  I always enjoyed seeing your family and spending time chatting.  Mr. B as I knew him was always a kind and patient man.  He had to be patient with me as math was not my forte!  Sending condolences from my family to yours.  My mom Elizabeth is now 91 and lives near me in her own home, with her cat.  Love and fond memories to all.

Clayton Beyer was an educator's educator.  He built a community in his school and I was privileged to work under his able and compassionate leadership.  Thoughts and prayers to Beyer family.
