Clyde John Hunter Sr., age 81, passed away on Friday, November 21st at Jersey Shore Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He fought with strength and a relentless spirit until the very end, ultimately ending up in the arms of the Lord.
Born on October 12th, 1944, in Charleston, SC, and raised in New York City, Clyde built a remarkable life rooted in hard work, humility, and devotion to those he loved. With a natural talent for connecting with people and an unmatched work ethic, he dedicated his entire career to the craft of butchery. It was during one of his deliveries that he met the love of his life, Carmen. After mustering the courage to ask her to lunch just a few days later, the two fell into a lifelong love. They married on June 16th, 1970, and later moved from the city to the suburbs of New Jersey to give their growing family a better life.
Outside of working tirelessly and caring for his family, Clyde found joy in simple pleasures—shooting pool while listening to oldies, bowling, traveling, and cheering on his beloved Mets.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Carmen; his four children, Ronnie; Clyde Jr., his wife Charlene; Venus, her wife Jamie; Selina, her husband Phillip; his honorary daughter, Nakeya; his five grandchildren, Joshua, Christian, Kadance, Sareya, and Nevaeh; and his sister, Dolores (Lola).
To all who knew him, Clyde was the heart of every gathering and the most gracious host. He went above and beyond to ensure his family and guests felt cared for, welcomed, and loved. Whether someone stopped in for a quick visit or stayed through the evening, he insisted you never left without something to eat and drink before you walked out the door. And in his presence, no one could help but laugh and enjoy the moment—his infectious smile and one-of-a-kind jokes made every moment feel special.
He will be forever remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, Pop Pop, brother, and friend. His legacy of love, generosity, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
