

Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and raised in Neptune, New Jersey, David was a proud graduate of the Neptune High School Class of 1977. Following high school, David honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1985 to 1988. After his military service, he built a dedicated career working with companies such as Pepsi-Cola, Comcast, and American Van Equipment, ultimately celebrating his well-earned retirement in 2025.
In his personal life, David was a vibrant soul who lived life to the fullest. He was a passionate sports fan, fiercely cheering on the New York Knicks, the New York Yankees, and the New York Giants. For many years, Dave loved playing basketball at the Dempsey Park courts on 16th Avenue in Belmar, New Jersey. He deeply loved the Jersey Shore and could often be found enjoying time at local favorites like The Columns, The Boathouse, Bar Anticipation, and Urban Coalhouse.
More recently, David loved cooking up meals for loved ones and friends by the community pool in Leisure Village, Lakewood, where he also thoroughly enjoyed attending community dances and karaoke nights. Dave brought an infectious energy wherever he went; he was truly the life of the party and was deeply loved by all who knew his personable, warm nature.
Above all, David’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his only child, his son Daniel Bonet of Wall, NJ, and his cherished grandchildren, Gabriella and Chase Bonet, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by Kelly Christen, his ex-wife and the mother of his son Daniel.
David is survived by his mother, Anna Maria Rodriguez; his brothers, Bautista Bonet and Noel Afanador (and wife, Gladys); and his sister, Cindy Sosidian. He also leaves behind many deeply loved nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his father, Domingo Afanador Sr., and his brothers, Domingo Jr. and Antonio.
David’s warmth, laughter, and service will never be forgotten by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 pm to 6:30pm June 16th, 2026 at D'Elia Funeral Home located at 1300 Vermont Ave, Lakewood, NJ 08701 followed by a Funeral Service starting at 6:30pm.
