Doris Baldwin McDowell

Doris Baldwin McDowell, age 87, died peacefully at her residence in Lakewood, NJ on Sunday, May 27, 2012. She was born on January 21, 1925 to the late William H. Baldwin and Jessie J. Baldwin of Madison, NJ. She attended the Madison public schools and was later employed by the Allstate Insurance Co. where she worked in the Human Resources Department.

Upon her retirement, Doris relocated to Bay Head, NJ where she had summered for many years. She was an active member of the community which she dearly loved. She belonged to the Bay Head/Mantoloking Literary Club and was a charter member of the Bay Head Historical Society. An avid gardener, Doris was a member of the Seaweeders Garden Club. For many years, she was a volunteer at the Point Pleasant Hospital in Point Pleasant. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends several times a week. She was also active in her church, St. Paul’s United Methodist of Bay Head.

Doris was the wife of the late H. Woodward McDowell and sister of the late William H. Baldwin, Jr. of Hilton Head, SC. She was also predeceased by her nephew, Richard T. Baldwin. Survivors include a nephew, William W. Baldwin and his wife Lisa, of Hilton Head Island; a niece Ann Baldwin Castagnola and her husband, Frederick of Bay Head; and great nephews, Blake Baldwin of Charleston, SC, Brock Baldwin of Hilton head Island, Todd DePetris of Rocky Point, NY and Michael Castagnola of Massapequa Park, NY.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, June 16th at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Bay Head. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s UMC, 423 West Lake Ave. Bay Head, NJ 08742.
