

Elizabeth S. Rozier, Esq. age 89, of Toms River, NJ passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at the Venetian Care and Rehabilitation Center in South Amboy, NJ. She was born in Newark, NJ on September 18, 1933 as the daughter of the late Alvin and Hattie Brown.
Elizabeth received her BS from Georgian Court University and JD from Rutgers School of Law in Newark, NJ. Elizabeth was an attorney who previously served as a Prosecutor for Lakewood Township, NJ for 9 years. She was a former Director of Consumer Affairs for Ocean County NJ. She was a partner with Robert Silverman practicing with the firm Silverman and Rozier in Lakewood, NJ. She later continued to maintain a private practice.
Elizabeth was appointed to serve two terms as a commissioner of the New Jersey Highway Authority. She was also a former board member of the Board of Directors of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey. Elizabeth served as outside counsel for the Resolution Trust Corp. and the F.D.I.C. Elizabeth served as senior counsel for 11 years for the Northern Ocean Senior Legal Assistance Project. Elizabeth served as general counsel for the New Jersey State Conference of the N.A.A.C.P. She also served as legal counsel for the coalition of 100 Black Women of New Jersey, Inc. She was a golden heritage member and lifetime member of the N.A.A.C.P.
Her community services include service as a member of the board of trustees of Ocean Monmouth Legal Services; member of the New Jersey Supreme Court District 3 Ethics Committee; Chair of the Ocean County Vicinage Advisory Committee on Minority Concerns for the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Affectionately known as "Gran," she was a no-nonsense type of person who helped many people through the use of her talents. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed sports and gardening. She loved cooking and entertaining for her family.
She was the devoted mother to daughter, Lanette, and son, Laurence III, with her late former spouse, Laurence; as well as the loving grandmother to Terence (Nicole), Alana (David), Trevor (Arivee), Tawnee (Lance), Jameise, and Timothy; six great-grandchildren--Chloe, Ulysses, Julian, Maya, Olivia, and Thalia; as well as a brother, Ronald Brown and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was the sister of the late, Alvin Brown, Reuben Brown, and Doris Ophelia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Mary of the Lake Church, 43 Madison Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. Committal services will follow in Ocean County Memorial Park.
