Fred was born and raised in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, NY. He loved telling stories of his youth playing stickball in the streets, school days with the nuns at Visitation Catholic School and Saturdays spent at the Pioneer Theater watching movies.
Red Hook was also where he met the love of his life, Arline Barry, at the local meat market where he worked as a teenager. Arline's mother sent her to buy sauerkraut which Fred dropped on the floor and the rest is history. Fred and Arline married in 1956.
As a true Brooklyn native son Fred was an avid Brooklyn Dodgers fan. He was crushed when the Dodgers moved from Ebbet's Field to Los Angeles.
Sports were always an interest for Fred and he played softball and basketball. He played softball well into his seventies.
In 1961 Fred and Arline moved their growing family to New Jersey. They raised their daughters here and enjoyed many fun filled days with their grandchildren.
Fred was a draftsman for many years. He retired from Novartis in 1996.
Fred and Arline enjoyed traveling and continued this in their retirement. They made frequent trips to Florida, South Carolina and Virginia. They especially enjoyed cruises to New England and Canada.
Fred was predeceased by his wife Arline in 2024.
He is survived by his three daughters, Charline, Suzanne [John] and Diane; six grandchildren, Kelly, Allison, Zane, Kevin [Jessica], Shannon [Nathan] and Melissa. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Joey, Seth, Ruby and Cillian
