Harry E. Taylor, Jr., age 75, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. He was born on July 14, 1937 in Irvington, NJ. Harry was raised in Newark, and had resided in Union and Irvington, NJ before moving to the Homestead Run section of Toms River, NJ 26 years ago. He was a career fireman who served the city of Newark, NJ for over 28 years before retiring in 1988. Harry was a member of the F.M.B.A. of Toms River, NJ, and he was fan of the NY Giants and NY Yankees. Son of the late Elizabeth and Harry E. Taylor, Sr., Harry is survived by his wife of 28 years, Florence; 2 children, Robert Taylor of Lakewood, NJ and Donna Howarth and her husband John of Florham Park, NJ; 2 stepchildren, John J. Appleyard of W. Orange, NJ and his fiancé Margarite DeCarlo and Robert J. Appleyard of Clark, NJ and his fiancé Gaye Zengari; 2 sisters, Joan Flammia of Manalapan, NJ and June Squillaro and her husband Joseph of Normandy Beach, NJ; a brother, Robert E. Taylor of South Mantoloking, NJ; 3 brother-in-laws, Joseph Gerdes, Timothy Gerdes and his wife Nancy, and Michael Gerdes; 3 sisters-in-law, Margaret Lee, Shelia Mahon and Alvina Martens; 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. His funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
