Don was born in Havana, Cuba on October 9, 1945 as the son of the late Zoila and Ibrahim Alemany. Don came to the United States in October of 1955 and settled in the Upper West Side of New York, NY. Don graduated in 1964 from the Miami Military Academy. He later furthered his education at The Citadel and Queens Community College in New York. From his early years of selling vacuum cleaners, Don went on to run a flower shop alongside his wife, and later retired as an Insurance Broker. He was active in the community, having been a Boy Scouts troop leader and a member and Past President of the Lakewood Lions Club. As a professional tax preparer, he frequently donated his time and service to those less fortunate. Don was an avid Notre Dame Football fan.
Husband of the late Patricia A. Alemany, Don is survived by his three children and their spouses, Brice J. Alemany; Tessa Rouleau (Erik); and Justin Alemany (Holly); two brothers and their spouses, Armando Alemany (Aurea) and Manuele Martinez (Josefina); five grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon J. Alemany (Christina), Kaela Gifford (Robert), Ashlynn Williams, Madisyn Alemany, Jaydon Alemany; three great-grandchildren, Evan J. Alemany, Adalynn S. Alemany, Owen Gifford; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
His family will receive relatives and friends for memorial visitation on Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. Cremation will be private, and his ashes will be laid to rest with his late wife Patricia privately at a later date.
