

John Allyn “Al” Conover, age 87, of Lakewood, passed away peacefully Friday at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA surrounded by loving family. He is now joining his beloved wife, Jean, in heaven. They were married for almost 62 years.Born in Bissell, NJ on February 16, 1924, he resided in Flemington, Trenton, Point Pleasant, and Safety Harbor, Florida, before coming to Lakewood in 2000. John was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He was a co-owner and operator of A& J Well Drilling in Jackson, NJ. John was a former active member of the Elks lodges in Florida, Trenton, and Pt. Pleasant. He was a volunteer member of the Flemington Fire Co. He was an active member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Brick. Husband of the late Catherine “Jean” Conover, who passed away in 2007, he is survived by his 3 daughters, Donna Flowers and her husband Darrel of Madison, NC; Deborah Lee Russo and her husband Neil of Jackson, NJ; and Jo Ann Hester of Long Branch, NJ; a brother, William Conover of PA; a sister, Lois Conner of FL; Grandchildren: Sandy, Shelley, Carrie, Frankie, Nicky, Roger, Keith and Jonathan; 10 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, great/great nieces & nephews. His memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Brick, NJ Sunday, May 1st at 2pm. A repast will be held immediately following in the fellowship hall. He will be laid to rest in the Brigadier General, William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery alongside his wife.
