

John J. Metelski, 78, passed away May 2, 2015 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ. Mr. Metelski was born in Hackensack, raised in Newark, living in Lake Hopatcong before settling in Lakewood for the past 6 years. He served in the US Army from 1960- 1962. John worked for Westinghouse in Newark, ITT in Clifton and BAE Systems in Wayne for many years as an Electronic Technician. He is the current commander of the East Orange American Legion Post 73. Mr. Metelski was an avid golfer, bowler and fisherman. Family was important to John and everyone loved him. He was a loving husband, brother, and uncle and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Metelski is predeceased by his parents George and Helen(nee Ford), and siblings, Florence Bannon, Amelia Stech, George Metelski, Mary MacLean, Ruth Tonzola and Helen Palermo. John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elizabeth “Bette,” siblings, Grace Burdick, Charles Metelski, Robert Metelski, and James Metelski, many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home 1300 Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 9AM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
