It is with deep sadness that we announce that Joseph Patrick Polomski has entered into eternal rest. He was predeceased by his parents; Peter and Henrietta Polomski, his third wife, Ellen Polomski (née Kearney), and Marilyn Polomski ( née Lake) mother of his 3 children. He leaves behind his brother Peter and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Polomski; his sister Francis Szelesta; his sister Lauraine and brother-in-law Louie Ponce; his two daughters, Gail Richard and Lynda Dolecheck; Ronald Polomski; and six grandchildren: Mackenzie and Evan Richard, Carlye Paskow, Juliette, Annice, and Aaron Polomski, as well as many nieces and nephews.
“Grandpa Joe,” as we called him, served in the U.S. Army from September 1960 to August 1962 and worked as a mechanical engineer for Bendix and ITT, retiring in 1995. In retirement, Joe enjoyed many years in Sun City Center, where he served as president of both his block association and his volleyball league.
Joseph was a very inquisitive soul. From a young age, he was fascinated by the workings and mechanics of how things functioned. A combination of Schneider, MacGyver, Inspector Gadget, and perhaps a bit more cunning than Wile E. Coyote, he was a true tinkerer and inventor who could fix anything. He designed work tools and training aids to help employees improve their efficiency.
Always willing to help—whether assembling something, tackling electrical or automotive work, or just about anything—Joe was the one who could figure it out. As he would often say, “I had a dream.”
He loved working on cars and owned his own shop, and although he never learned to swim, his passion was fishing. He also developed a fondness for building model ships, and his USS New Jersey was selected for display in the a museum in Camden, New Jersey.
He will be deeply missed for his creative ingenuity and was admired by many, including his two beloved daughters.
“I’ve lived a fantastic life, and I’d do it again.”
At Joseph Polomski's request, no formal services will be held. The family kindly requests that any memorial contributions be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation for Veterans. https://www.garysinisefoundation.org in his honor.
