

Born on August 9, 1947 in Philadelphia to his parents Joseph and Amelia Richard, he was a graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School. He resided in Philadelphia, PA, Chicago, IL, and for the past 20 years in Virginia Beach, VA.
Joe served in the United States Army from October 1966 - October 1968, earning badges for both sharpshooter and marksman. After the army, he spent 35 years working for the Household Finance Corporation. He proudly retired not a second past 59 ½ years old.
Joe was an avid golfer, and an overall sports fan – especially for the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Joe also had a passion for music. He spent the 1970’s and 1980’s following local cover bands all over New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He spent the first few years of his retirement travelling the United States by car to follow his favorite national acts, including his very favorite Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.
Joe is survived by his his son and daughter –in-law, Scott and Melissa Richard of Augusta, GA, his daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and James Van de Zilver of Jackson, NJ; his daughter Darcy Clark of Virgina Beach, VA; 4 grandchildren: Davin Van de Zilver, Jacie Van de Zilver, Natalie Whittaker, and Zachary Clark; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Kathy Richard; and sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Dan Coughlin.
Funeral services will be held at D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood on Friday at 11:45AM. Friends may call at the funeral home before services from 9:45-11:45AM.
