Larry proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1969. He received the National Defense Service medal and the Good Conduct medal. He was a railroad engineer with Pennsylvania Railroad, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern which he retired from after 40 years of dedicated service on the railroad.
Larry was pre-deceased in death by his parents, George L. and Helen Nickerson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Marilyn Nickerson; his daughter, Debra Doran and her husband, Sean, and his son, Michael Nickerson and his wife, Brandy and his cherished granddaughters, Olivia Nickerson and Katie Doran who called him their "EPOP." Larry leaves behind his siblings, Barbara Shannon, Nickie Wilbur, Terry Nickerson and Karen Tilley as well as many nieces and nephews.
Larry enjoyed many years of golfing and playing pool with his son. He loved fishing and was a great cook. He was passionate about buying new cars and riding his new Harleys. He was a member of American Legion Post 166 in Lakewood for the past 31 years and a proud brother of the Vietnam Vets MC.
Larry was a big tough guy on the outside but truly had a soft heart on the inside which really showed in his love for his granddaughters "his girls" and of course his "puppies" now in heaven with him. We are broken hearted and life will not be the same without him.
Visiting hours will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the D'Elia Funeral Home,
1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tails of Hope, P.O. Box 631, Oakhurst, N.J. 07755 in memory of Larry's love of animals (especially German Shepherds).
