
Leonard Zehnbauer, 103, passed away January 22, 2012 at his home in Lakewood. Mr. Zehnbauer was born and raised in Jersey City and lived in Lakewood for the past 12 years. He has an elementary education and during World War II he worked for Western Electric where he was an essential part of the development of the first radar and the installation of the first transcontinental telephone line. Leonard was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Union, NJ and a member of the Pioneers in Western Electric. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, golfing, fishing, pinochle, summers in Vermont, and his favorite past time was spending time with his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Zehnbauer is predeceased by his wife Connie in 2011 and their son Leonard in 1988. Leonard is survived by his daughter Marge Himpele and her husband Arthur, nine grandchildren, Art Himpele and his wife Dana, Len Zehnbauer and his wife Mary, Mary Ann Guido, Mike Himpele and his wife Tracy, Mark Zehnbauer and his wife Donna, Terry Ultis and her husband David, Paul Zehnbauer and his wife Merry, David Zehnbauer and his wife Ginger and Connie Zehnbauer, twenty three great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, daughter in law, Nancy and her husband Bernie Fitzpatrick, and his devoted caretaker Lora. Friends may call Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 4-8 pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. A Mass of Celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 10AM at St. Dominic’s Church in Brick. Entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
