Louis was a first generation American born in 1929 to Concetta and Alphonso De Marco who immigrated from Italy. Louis grew up in Newark, NJ, and was one of 5 children.
Louis went to The Newark College of Engineering (now known as NJIT) and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1953. He was a member of Alpha Phi Delta. Louis served in the Korean War, Private 1st Class, US Army, and was honorably discharged in December 1954.
Louis married Marie Bank in 1956, they had 3 children, Alfonse (deceased), Concetta, and Helena. They moved to Maplewood in 1967 and lived there for over 30 years. Louis was active in the Lions Club of Maplewood and the Maplewood UNICO. Louis worked for Bendix Corporation, and then ITT in Defense Communications and Avionics. Louis retired in 1993 and became very active in retirement. He played golf, bowled, poker, bridge, bocci, and went on frequent cruises.
After his beloved wife Marie passed suddenly in 2003, Louis met his dear companion Ann. They were together for over 23 years, enjoying their active adult community, dancing, cruising, bowling, and playing bocci.
Louis is survived by his loving companion Ann Clemenza, two daughters, Concetta Hankowski and Helena De Marco, three granddaughters, Marie Lewis, MaryGrace Hankowski, and Megan Lewis. Louis is also survived by his brother David De Marco, sister-in-law Adele De Marco, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Louis was predeceased by his wife Marie, son Alfonse, parents Concetta and Alphonso, sisters Catherine, Anne, Sophia, brothers-in-law Alfred, Robert, Sam, nephew Stephen and niece Celeste.
Louis lived a long and healthy life. He will especially be remembered as an extremely wise and kind man who loved dancing, cruising, and going out to eat at the local diner.
Visitation will be held at D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave, Lakewood, NJ 08701, US, on August 11, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Luke Roman Catholic Church, 1674 Old Freehold Rd, Toms River, NJ 08755, US, on August 12, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:45 am.
