Born in Brooklyn, NY; and educated in FL; Mr. Amor lived in Lakewood for most of his life.
He worked as a Physical Education Teacher for Freehold Twp. Board of Education for 26 years retiring in 1992. He also coached the Cross Country Team, and guided them to a 1973 state title.
He was best known for being a Square Dance Caller, and was a charter member of The Callers’ Council of NJ. He started calling in 1953 and called for many clubs on the entire east coast, primarily the Star Thru Squares of Lakewood, Do-Si-Dos of Freehold, and the Staten Square Set of Staten Island. He was the author of numerous square dance calls, and received numerous National and International awards. He was also an avid cartoonist, and enjoyed writing and recording folk music.
Pre-deceased by his Father Manuel Sr, and his mother Cristina Pages Amor, he is survived by his two daughters Toyanna L. Miller and her husband Stephen of PA, Nisa K. Stein and her husband Richard of VA, his son Delton D. Amor of NJ, his three brothers James and his wife Louisa of NY, Edward of FL, Richard and his wife Sharon of GA, his sister Carol Collard and her husband Richard of FL, his former wife Jaquelyn Amor of NJ, his five grandchildren Charles, Brandon, Shaun, Shire, Gregory, his aunt Aurora Steig of Boston, MA, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday November 25th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave; Lakewood, NJ 08701. Church service will be held Saturday November 26th at 11am at the 1st Presbyterian Church, 313 Clifton Ave, Lakewood, NJ 08701.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in Manuel’s’ name to the American Cancer Society.
