Milton Thomas Matthews Sr.

Milt was a lifelong resident of Lakewood, graduating from Lakewood High School in 1943. He married Doris Chantre in June 1945 after serving in the US Navy from 1943-1945 and Naval Reserves from 1946-1950. He was a member of the Local 331 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters for over 60 years, working up and down the Jersey Shore.

He is survived by his son, Milton and daughter-in-law Becky of Delray Beach, FL., a daughter Lynn Matthews Brown of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and son Dean of Atlanta, GA. Milton has 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Milton was predeceased by his wife, Doris.

Although no formal services will be held to honor Milt, a tax deductible gift can be made to the Lakewood High School “Matthews Family Scholarship,” 26 Circle Drive, Manchester, NJ 08759 –OR- a memorial contribution may be made to Van Dyke Hospice, 1433 Hooper Avenue, Suite 230, Toms River, NJ 08753.

As an avid sport fan, Milt would say, “you can’t win ‘em all.”
