Patricia L. Williamson, 91, of Lakewood, formerly of New Brunswick, passed away peacefully at home in Harrogate Assisted Living on Saturday July 14, 2018. Patricia, referred to fondly by those who knew her as Grandie, Patty or Aunt Pat, was an avid lover of Rutgers University football, swimming in the ocean, entertaining guests and having sunset Manhattans on the deck of her beloved Manasquan beach house.
Born March 31,1927 in Hackensack, NJ to parents Clarence Roy Long and Marjorie Flavelle, Patty grew up in Bogota, NJ with siblings Betty, David and Marjorie. At the age of 21, while working at JP Stevens in New York City, she would meet her husband Robert Griggs Williamson to whom she was married for 41 years until his passing in 1990. Together they raised their twins Pamela W. Lewis, Manasquan and Thomas D. Williamson, Helmetta, and stepdaughter Roberta W. Blake, deceased, in New Brunswick and regularly spent summers at their beach house in Manasquan.
Patty was an active volunteer at Middlesex General Hospital, now known as Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, in New Brunswick, she founded the Rutgers University women’s football fan club, the Football Fan-EEs, and was a member of her local garden club and bridge club. She was also proud to be part of the first graduating class of Middlesex County College in 1968.
Upon her husbands passing in 1990, Patty picked up a travel bug that took her all the way around the world, twice. She frequented places such as Panama, Bali, Easter Island, Alaska, several parts of Asia, and the entirety of Great Britain, just to name a few. No matter where her travels took her, she always returned to her “ little beach shack” in Manasquan, maintaining that it was the most beautiful place on earth.
Patricia leaves behind her two children, Pam & Tom, Toms wife Kathleen Bennett, four grandchildren Meredith A. Lewis & R. Phillip Lewis of Manasquan, Janet B. Renjilian & her husband Ron of Colorado, Bruce Blake and his wife Jackie of Delaware, as well as four great grand children Robert Blake & Carson James of Colorado and Mackenzie & Zachary H. of Delaware and countless caring friends. Though she could sometimes be a firecracker, Patty had a way of touching the hearts of each and every person she came in contact with.
To honor her wishes a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Patricia’s name to the Middlesex County College Scholarship fund at http://www.middlesexcc.edu/mcc-foundation/
