Paul W. Weinland, age 79, of Jackson, New Jersey passed away on Wednesday January 15, 2020 at the CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, New Jersey. Paul was born July 20, 1940 in Elizabeth, NJ as the son of the the late Getrude and George Weinland.
After serving in the US Army and working at the A division of Sperry Gyroscope, Mr. Weinland joined Merck in 1962. He received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Pace University in 1969 and a master’s degree in business administration from Wagner College in 1972 with a concentration in business processes and marketing.
Paul retired as Director of Corporate Services Procurement for Merck & Co., Inc. His almost 37 year career at Merck was in the area of worldwide procurement projects spanning the globe in England, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Canada, and Puerto Rico. After being assigned to the project team for the new construction of the Merck Corporate Headquarters built in Readington Township in 1989, the Weinland’s relocated their home and family from Monmouth County to Hunterdon County.
The relocation of the family to Hunterdon County was the start of Mr. Weinland’s community service. Beginning in 1993, he became a founding Board Member of the Hunterdon Economic Partnership and a member of the Board of Directors of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce. He was an active Board Member of Anderson House, Visiting Health and Supportive Services, and The Midland School Foundation, as well as an active member of the Hunterdon County Growth Management Task Force. Mr. Weinland served as chair for three years for the Hunterdon County March of Dimes Walkathon held at the Merck site.
After retirement, Paul travelled extensively worldwide. He particularly enjoyed traveling to Tanzania where he continued his service by sponsoring students at the School of St. Jude and donating extensively to create a library at the school.
Husband of the late Margaret Elizabeth Weinland who passed away in 2014, Paul is survived by their children, Jeffrey T. Weinland of Orlando, FL, and Donna Watts of Jackson, NJ; two grandchildren, Justin and Sabrina; a sister, Frances VanBuskirk of Moscow, PA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. His funeral service will be conducted at 9:00 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2020 in the funeral home. He will be laid to rest alongside his late wife in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Freehold, NJ at a later date.
