

Sol Hirsch, 86, passed away May 29, 2016 at his home in Berlin, NJ surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Hirsch was born in Ludz, Poland before becoming a victim of the Holocaust, where he lost his entire family and was moved to Auschwitz, Birkenau, and Berger-Belzen where he was finally liberated by the British in 1945. He traveled to America in 1947 with Eleanor Roosevelt as part of her Save the Children Foundation Project. Sol held various jobs in New York City before settling in to Tabatchnicks as a Butcher. He loved to cater parties, especially for his loving family and was known for his talent of deconstructing a turkey. Mr. Hirsch took great pride in planning family gatherings by planning the menu and venues. He was a hard worker and dedicated family man especially to his beloved grandchildren. Sol loved to cook, go to the beach, dance, create his kooky videos and worship the sun. His biggest love after his family was his beloved New York Yankees, where he loved to get bleacher seats and take in a game and the sun. He was a loving father grandfather and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Hirsch is predeceased by his parents Sarah and Morris Herszfinkel, first wife, Renee and their son, Jeffrey Hirsch, and second wife, Marjorie Ann. Sol is survived by his children, Lewis Hirsch, Erin Dalley, Mindy Weiss and her husband John Sr., Kimberly Letts and her husband Stephen, and Susan Staffordsmith and her husband Gregory, grandchildren, Lauren Faura and her husband Johnny, Elizabeth Weiss, Tyler DiStefano, Shaina Dalley, John Weiss Jr., Austin Letts, Makenzie Staffordsmith, Madison Staffordsmith, Marjorie Letts and Molly Staffordsmith, and great grandchildren, Holly and Johnny III. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 6-9 pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home 1300 Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701, feel free to wear your favorite Yankee fan gear. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 10:30AM at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Ocean County Memorial Park, in Toms River.
