Born in Fort Huachuca, AZ, he resided in Hoboken, NJ and settled in Jersey City, NJ 2 years ago.
Surviving are his parents: Harold & Pisha Mathis of Lakewood; a brother: Michael Mathis and his wife Lisa of Longmeadow, MA; two nephews: Chase & Wyatt; and many other extended family members, friends, and coworkers.
While a student at Rutgers University, Steven was a brother of the Chi Psi Fraternity, Alpha Rho chapter. He started his career with various IT service companies in New York City before starting his own consulting business, which he operated for 10 years. Steven also loved to travel, and often spoke about his time in Central & South America, specifically Rio de Janeiro.
