

Steven Wayne Portner, 73, of Whiting, New Jersey, passed away on October 30, 2023. He was born on May 15, 1950, in Manhattan, New York, to his late parents Matilda (Tilly) Portner and Nathan (Nat) Portner. Steven was a devoted husband to Rhoda Portner and a loving father to his daughter Joy Montuoro, her husband Rich Montuoro, son Adam Portner, and his long-term partner Noel Torres. He took great joy in being a grandfather to Joseph Montuoro, his fiancée Rebecca Coleman, grandson Dylan Montuoro, and granddaughter Ashley Montuoro. Steven is also survived by his sisters Cheryl Cusmano and Sandra Raszka. He leaves behind a legacy of love and will be fondly remembered by his extended family, including numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Throughout his life, Steven had a successful career in car sales, starting at the family-owned dealership Sandy Motors. His passion and dedication led him to co-found Product Marketing Services alongside his business partner Barry Gossett, where he made significant contributions to the industry.
In his leisure time, Steven found solace in simple pleasures. He enjoyed playing cards, making trips to Atlantic City, and relishing in the timeless melodies of oldies music. However, his greatest joy came from sharing his captivating stories, which never failed to elicit laughter and leave a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to hear them.
A service to honor Steven's life will be held on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Beth Israel Cemetery, located at 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, 07095. Mourners are to meet at the cemetery office and will follow the hearse to the Klein Family Circle Grave Site. Following the service, the family will be sitting Shiva until 7:00 p.m. at 161 Woodside Lane, Whiting, New Jersey, 08759. Shiva will continue through Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day. The ceremony and Shiva will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and acquaintances to pay their respects and bid farewell to a remarkable individual.
Steven Wayne Portner's memory will forever be treasured by those who knew him. His warm demeanor, quick wit, and genuine love for his family and friends will be dearly missed. May his soul find eternal peace and may his legacy continue to inspire and bring joy to all whose lives he touched.
