August 25, 1925 - June 5, 2026
of Tuckerton, NJ
Born to Rosette and William Flesche in Englewood, NJ, Bill witnessed and experienced a century of history. He endured the hardships of the Great Depression and proudly served his country in the United States Army from April 16,1943 to November 29, 1945. He was in Battery A of the 348th Field Artillery Battalion (a 155mm howitzer unit) during World War II while stationed in North Africa and Italy. His military decorations included three Bronze Star Medal Awards, the American Theatre Ribbon Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
One of the greatest blessings of his life was his marriage to the love of his life, Virginia Clair Chapman (Jean) Flesche. Together they shared 76 wonderful years of marriage, building a family rooted in love, faith, and commitment.
He is survived by his wife Jean and four of his five children: Gail Flesche, Jane Rizzo (husband Raymond), Debra Flesche, and William Flesche (partner Liza Martin). Preceded in death by his son Robert Flesche. Also survived by 15 grand children, 34 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
Bill was a man of humility, kindness, integrity, and quiet strength. He was retired from employment as an aircraft mechanic at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, was hard working, fun-loving, and wonderfully frugal. In addition, he served as Vice president of the Teamsters Union.
Bill’s character was evident in the way he lived his life. He served others with a selfless heart and possessed a rare wisdom and steadfastness that inspired everyone who knew him and loved him.
Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we are profoundly grateful for the gift of his life and the many years we were blessed to share with him.
A hundred years is an extraordinary legacy. The love, wisdom, and values Bill shared will continue to live on through the four generations of family he helped build. His influence will be felt for generations to come; he will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support shown during this time.
