

Born in Lakewood, he was a lifelong resident and, most recently resided in the Leisure Village community. He was very active in Leisure Village, organizing and founding the community. Having attended seminary schooling to become a priest, he also volunteered to prayer with Leisure Village residents who were bedridden. He also gave his time to pray with patients at Kimball Medical Center.
He graduated from St. John’s University and went on to receive his Doctoral degree from Barry University. Before retiring about 15 years ago, Dr. Goertz was a teacher at St. Rose High School in Belmar, where he taught classes such as Latin and Greek. He also volunteered his time as a teacher in the Lakewood library, giving instructional computer classes.
Surviving are his nieces and nephews: Mary Goertz Mey, Joseph Goertz, Patricia Goertz, Jane Coughran, and William Goertz; and 9 great nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at12PM at St. Mary of the Lake RC Church, Lakewood. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood.
