

On July 10, 1925, in Washington, Louisiana, the 10th child, a beautiful smiling baby girl blessed the eyes of Annie Williams Cains and Hampton Cains Sr. They named this gift from God... Annie Mae. She grew up and at the age of 8, accepted Christ and was baptized June 12, 1933 by Rev. Walter Williams at New Home Baptist Church in Washington, Louisiana. Later, the family joined St. Mary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Mathew W. Antoine. On November 18, 1942, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Abraham Parker. He preceded her in death. To this union no children were born, but she was a mother to many. Annie Mae attended Washington Public Schools in Washington, Louisiana. She later pursued a career in Cosmetology at Hamilton's Beauty School in Beaumont, Texas where she was licensed in 1961. In 1955 Annie Mae united with Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church under Rev. Roosevelt Colvin. She remained faithful to Barbour's Chapel serving under Reverends L. B. Brown, B. Reynolds, J. H. Scott, H. A Ratcliff, James E. Brown and presently Rev. Andrew W. Berry II. She has served in the Sunday School, Missionary Society, Pastor's Aide, Bible Study, SAM (Senior Adults Ministry) and as Choir President. Her fraternal affiliation includes, Capernaum Chapter #211 Order of Eastern Star, Sis. June Carpenter, Worthy Matron. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie and Hampton Cains Sr.; her husband of 38 years, Abraham Parker; two sisters, Ollie Cains Denton of Washington, Louisiana and Elzadie Cains Booth of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and seven brothers, Andrew Cains, Hampton Cains Jr., Aaron Cains, Louis Cains, Reed Cains, Allen Cains and Earl Cains. She leaves to cherish her legacy a daughter she reared, Betty Jean Parker of Texas City, Texas; step-son, Steven Funderburk of Lafayette, Louisiana; three granddaughters, Angla McGee (Keith), Latecia "Sweetpea" Morris and Janet "Buffy" Wrice (Roosevelt) of Texas City, Texas; two grandsons, Kevin Guillory of Texas City and Laaron Morris (preceded her in death); six great-grandchildren; Godchildren, Elnora Cains and Esther Waldrup of Houston, Texas; Joyce Simien of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Jonae Long, Mike Baker and Justin Webb of Texas City, Texas. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear and special friends.
