

Carl Joiner, Sr. was born on April 15, 1939 in Newton, Texas to Ellison and Vertie Joiner, who both preceded him in death. He accepted Christ at an early age. He received his public education in the Newton School District and was in the graduating class of 1958. After graduation, he moved to Texas City-La Marque and joined Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. G.W. Singleton, Jr. On January 19, 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Susie Mae Smith and to this union 5 children were born. They made their home in Texas City. Carl wasn't afraid of work and took on several jobs to provide for his family. He was employed by Monsanto for over 30 years and retired in 1999. He had such a love for country living, after his retirement he went back to Newton and enjoyed his second home there. He had a love for people, fun personality, full of life and never met a stranger. On November 9, 2004, he married Carolyn Nixon and remained married until his death. He is preceded in death by his siblings: Sybil Meeks, Beatrice Bibbs, Ruby Watley, Mae Johnson, Gertrude Sells, Robert Joiner and Henry Joiner. Carl leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife; Carolyn Joiner; five children, whom he loved dearly; Dianna Wheelock (Keith); Carl Joiner, Jr.; Kenneth Joiner (Phyllis); Ursula Burns (Therrell) and Jeffrey Joiner (Gwen); three step-children; Steve Simmons, Craig Mixson and La Trina Mixson; sisters; Louella Joiner, Jewel Hardgraves and Laverne Dudley-Brown; brothers; Rev. Ellison Joiner, Jr. and Edward Joiner (Alma); Three Sister in laws; Jackie Simmons, Eyvette Simmons and Cheryl Simmons; 4 brother in laws; Keith Simmons, Randy Simmons, Darryl Simmons and Herbert Simmons. One God-son, Deleon Bennett; 24 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
