

Cornelius Terrance Dewayne Spells was born in Galveston, Texas to Shonta Spells and Pernell McCardell on May 19, 1996. He grew up and attended public schools in Hitchcock, Texas where he excelled in Basketball and graduated in June 2014. He was planning to attend San Jacinto College after his graduation. To his friends, Cornelius was fondly known as C-Nel. He loved crawfish, hanging with his friends and most especially Basketball. He also found the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Cornelius passed from this earthly life on June 12, 2015. He was preceded in death by his loving Granny, Johnnie Mae "Mutt" Spells Richardson and his special childhood friend, Elexis Preston. Left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted parents, Shonta Spells and Marcellus Rogers; siblings, Dashon, Jaylon and Taylor Rogers, Darius and Tylee McCardell; special devoted "sister" (cousin), Carlisha Richardson; uncles, Carlos Spells, Montorris Smith, Joseph McDonald and Joseph Richardson; aunts, Shavonne Richardson and Tya Rogers; grandparents, Jacqueline Smith, Denise Williams and Joseph Richardson (Cynthia); great-grandparents, Ida Mae Spells, Martha Richardson and Shirley Marie McCardell; godparents, Yvonne and William Thibodeaux, LaSundra McDaniel, Anthony and Norma Spells; also a host of loving aunts, uncles, special cousins from the Spells, Richardson, Smith, McGaskey and McCardell families, as well as his special basketball teammates and Coach. The family is requesting that NO pictures or videos be taken before or during services; and give special acknowledgements to MD Anderson Pediatric Hospital staff and especially Dr. M. Rytting and Nurse Brandi; also, Daniel Guidry (benefit sponsor) as well as all of the Hitchcock community that provided love and support to Cornelius and his family throughout the past three (3) years.
