In Our Hearts Forever Remembering Our Loved One. Hazel Irene Balfour Williams began her earthly journey on June 28, 1922 in Columbus, Texas. She was the daughter of James Balfour and Ora Baker Balfour. Hazel was educated in the public schools of Columbus, Texas and was a graduate of Columbus Colored High School. She furthered her education by attending Texas Southern University and Franklin Beauty School in Houston, Texas. Hazel worked as a Teachers Assistant in the New Mexico School Systems. While in New Mexico, she served as Musician and Director of the Choir at Wesley Chapel AME Church. Uniting in Holy Matrimony to Shed Williams, this union was blessed with three sons. After returning to Houston, Texas, Mrs. Williams united with Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor William Lawson. She attended plays and events at The Ensemble Theater of Houston with her sister until her health failed. On August 9, 2012, God called His child, Hazel Williams, home to rest at the age of 90. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Ora Balfour; her husband, Shed Williams, Sr.; son, Raymond Williams; grandson, Raymond Williams, Jr.; and three siblings, Lawrence Balfour, Lee Balfour and Marcina Flowers. Left to cherish memories of her long and fruitful life are her sons, Shed Williams, Jr. and wife, Ma'Shelle and Charles Williams and wife, April; a sister, Hattie Owens; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and dear friends. To My Loved Ones! When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had 90 beautiful years. God saw my road was getting rough, and hills were hard to climb. He gently flossed my loving eyes, And whispered: Peace be thine. My weary hours, the days of pain, And my sleepless nights are past. Be ye ever patient, my worn out frame, Has found sweet rest at last! So grieve a while for me, if you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust. I won't be far way, for life goes on. So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near, And if you listen with your heart, you will hear- All my love around you, so soft and clear. And then when you must come this way alone, I'll be here with God, my darling, greeting you with a smile, saying, "Welcome Home."
