

A Life of Valiant Service… Henry James Caldwell, Sr. Born for Service: On March 8, 1946, in Newellton, Louisiana, Henry James Caldwell, began his first chapter in his book of earthly service. He was born to the parentage of to James Roach and Mattie Mae Caldwell. He was a handsome joyful baby. He was nurtured in a loving home with Jesus being instilled in his heart at an early age and he was baptized at the St. Walker Church on Kenny Plantation. He was predestined to be a great solider, even as a child he was a protector to his family. He was educated in the public schools of Tallulah, Louisiana. After high school in the 1960’s, Henry seeking a better life moved to Galveston, Texas. He married Dorothy Lee Williams and this union was blessed with five children. He united with the Mount Mariah Baptist Church. Committed to Service: He wanted to protect and service his Country and he did so by enlisting in the United States Marine Corp. Henry bravely served in the Vietnam War from 1968 until he was severely injured in 1970. Throughout his distinguished service time, he served his country unselfishly and with pride. His exceptional dedication to duty, leadership abilities and overall approachability were unparalleled to all he came in contact with. His medals and decorations include: National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with1 Star; Vietnam Campaign medal with Device; Purple Heart Medal; Combat Action Ribbon; Rifle Marksman Badge. Although no longer able to fight for his country, he remained a loyal veteran and true to the Marine Corp’s creed. Henry met, fell in love with and on November 26, 1988, married his beloved Priscilla Ann Fuqua. He moved his membership to Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Galveston. “Caldwell” as he was lovingly called by his family and friends, was a noble man with a strong work ethic. He was employed by Todd Ship Yard as a welder’s helper and he later went to work for Bay Oil Company as a truck driver until he retired in 2008. Keeping with his church covenant he united with Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, in Texas City, where he remained a devoted member until the Lord called him home. He was a faithful member of the Brotherhood and Male Chorus. He believed in completing whatever he set out to do, if you were in need you could count on him lending a helping hand. Caldwell enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. Henry leaves a legacy of strength, courage and love to his family and friends. Service Completed: On Sunday, July 10, 2016, Henry James Caldwell, Sr., at the age of 70 completed his final chapter in his book of Service, allowing him to begin his eternal life with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Murphy and Mattie Golston, and James and Leila B Roach; siblings: Robert Lewis, Calvin Lee Golston, James Roach Jr. and Emmitt Roach. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted and loving wife, Priscilla Ann Caldwell; two sons, Henry James Caldwell, Jr., and Stephen Leslie Thomas, Jr; five daughters, Angela McGary, Antoinette Caldwell-Johnson (Keenan), Amanda Caldwell-Boyce, LaQunta Caldwell and Eleitha Shawn Bowers (Donald); fifteen grandchildren, Alvin Thompson, Jr., David Gay, Teyonna Kossie, DeAndre’ Thompson, Trenard Hill, Jerrelle Miles, Jarvis Miles, D’Marcus Montgomery, Clifford Brown, Jr., DeMarian Montgomery, Jade Boyce, Trinity Boyce, Emberlyn Boyce, Donald Bowers, Jr., Jordan Rose; three great-grandchildren, Penelope Gay, Trenard Hill, Jr., and Allijah Thompson; three sisters, Fannie Mae Round (Joe), Carletta Roach and Rosie R. Roach-Kye; six brothers, Eddie Roach (Catherin), Robert Roach (Brenda), Wesley Roach (Patricia), Arthur Roach, Alfred Roach (Antoinette), Alton Roach (Andrea); in-laws, Melvin and Mary Fuqua, Jean Frater, Karen Denise Fuqua-Hall (Charles), Merian Lynn Stinson (David), Melvin C Fuqua, III (Rosetta), Cynthia Fuqua and Eric Fuqua (Siaita); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
