

Deacon James Edward Houston, age 77, passed away in Nassau Bay, Texas on May 19, 2013. James was born October 26, 1935 in Rock Island, Illinois to W. Edward Houston and Maureen Emily Anson Houston. He married Sally Jo Marshall on May 27, 1967 in Rock Island, Illinois. James leaves to celebrate his life and memory, the love of his life for 45 years, Sally Houston and his children, Ramon Houston of San Antonio, Texas, Pamela Pulley of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Erica Lyn Houston of Houston, Texas; His grandchildren, LaKisha Hale, LaTasha Young and Ramero Houston; Three sisters, Maria Ellis (Tommy) Lindsey of Atlanta, Georgia, Patricia Bohanan of Davenport, Iowa and Diania Houston of Rock Island, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Edward and Maureen Houston, one brother Lyle A. Houston and one sister, Regina Foy. Jim graduated from Rock Island Illinois High School in 1954. He went on to obtain his degree from Black Hawk College. Jim achieved the rank of Sergeant at the Rock Island Illinois Police Department where he served for 20 years. The culmination of his career was Captain of Security at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. He was Deacon of the New Beginning Church where he worked diligently with his ministries. Coordinating care and visitation at nursing homes was the monthly duty that he most cherished. Jim was always willing to give advice to friends and loved ones due to his caring nature. His humor and fun loving spirit touched everyone he met. Jim was a dedicated husband and a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed.
