James "J.D." Shankle

James Daniel Shankle, fondly known as "J.D." was born December 13, 1923 in Shankleville, TX.   He married his high school sweetheart, Ara Washington of Yellow Pine, TX, on January 28, 1946. The newlyweds lived in Shankleville, TX for 1 year before relocating to Texas City, TX in 1947. Both joined McKinney Memorial United Methodist Church. For over 50 years, J.D. remained a faithful and dedicated member of the church.  He served as a member of the United Methodist Men and as a Stewart of the church. He served an active member of the La Marque Masonic Lodge #373 F&AM Prince Hall Affiliation for over 60 years. He was also a member of Winn Consistory #234 Scottish Rite Masons 32nd Degree and El Katif Temple #85 of the Mystic Shrine.   They were blessed with a baby boy who they proudly named James Aaron Shankle. He was given unselfish love and attention only a mother and father could give. J.D. was a man of strength, courage, and Godly wisdom up until the moment the Lord called him home on November 6, 2016.  He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 68 years, Ara Washington Shankle; his siblings; and grandson, Aaron Armon Shankle. He will be greatly missed and remembered in the hearts of his devoted son and daughter-in-law, James Aaron Shankle and wife, Michaelle Shankle; grandchildren, Aariel, Madison, Morgan, Joshua, and Jordan, two great-grandchildren, Jadyn and Harrison; sisters-in-law, Joyce Giles and Espanolia Washington; and lots of devoted nieces and nephews.
