

On July 6, 1944, in Brenham, Texas Joe Lewis began his first chapter in his book of earthly life. He was born to the parentage of Peter Lewis and Ruby Terrell. He was a handsome joyful baby. He was nurtured in a Christian loving home with Jesus being instilled in his heart at an early age. His journey with the Lord began when he was a young child, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized at Greater Barbour’s Chapel Baptist Church, by the late Pastor J. H. Scott. He was educated in the public schools of La Marque Independent School District. He was a 1965 proud graduate of Lincoln High School. Joe had a wonderful persona, he was a noble man with a strong work ethic. He worked at Union Carbide for 34 years, retiring in 2004. Joe also was employed with the City of Texas City Parks and Recreation Department at Lincoln Gym where he invested his time and talents with the youth in the community. Joe believed in completing whatever he set out to do, if you were in need you could count on him lending a helping hand. He loved his family and enjoyed spending quality time with them. Joe made a lot of transitions in his life but most importantly he knew the Lord, the Word of God, and he had a relationship with Him. He leaves a legacy of strength, courage and love to his family and friends. On Wednesday, November 18, 2015, Joe completed his final chapter in his book of Earthly Life, allowing him to begin his eternal life with the Lord. He is preceded in death by his parents Peter Lewis and Ruby Terrell; stepfather, Booker Terrell; three siblings, Booker Terrell, Rosa Lewis and Margaret Griffin along with other loved ones. He leaves his love and most treasured memories in the hearts of his children, Derrick Lewis (Kimley), Darris Lewis, Tayja Lewis and Roneisha Lewis; grandchildren, Diamonique Franklin, Darrius Greene, Ashlynn Lewis, Darion and Daryiah Robinson, Janyian and Jaynah Captain; his sisters, Irene Johnson, Nancy Murphy (Emmett), Ruby Scott (Sam); brothers, Aaron Terrell (Daphne), Claude Terrell (Yvonne) and Troy Terrell (Joslynn); a special brother-in-law, Ronald Blue; a very special nephew, Biastille Haywood; two special aunts Mildred Johnson and Lillie Mae Haynes; special friend, Albert Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other family and friends.Services will be Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church, 7420 FM 1765 in Texas City with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM followed by services at 11:00 AM. Pastor Andrew W. Berry II, officiating and Pastor Malcolm C. Dotson Sr., eulogist. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
