

Larry Courville, husband, devoted father, brother, and doting grandfather, departed this life on November 14, 2014. Larry was born May 15, 1939, to John and Avia Courville, in Opelousas, Louisiana. He was the fourth of their five children. Larry attended and graduated from Central High School in Galveston, Texas. While a student there, he excelled on the baseball and football teams. Following High School, he attended Wiley College, a renown HBCU College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He also met his wife; Edna Jones at Wiley. In 1965, Larry began his professional and lifelong career of teaching and coaching young people in Health and Physical Education, Basketball, Football, and Track. He taught and coached in Linden, Texas, (Fairview High School), and Galveston, TX. Larry possessed a love and passion for golf and every friend that ever played a round of golf with him. Larry's greatest passion was in the field of track. In 1992, he coached the Galveston Ball High School Girl's Track Team, (Lady Tors), to their 1st State Title as Champions. As a father of two daughters; Monica and Larita, Larry instilled the values of education, hard work, dedication, and taking care of family. Larry reminded his daughters, daily, to take care of "his" children, (the grand-children). As a husband, Larry was "old school" and simply believed that his duty was to provide for his family. Larry is survived by his wife, Edna, of 50yrs, daughter; Monica Jones (Phillip), Larita Merritt (Ryan), three grand-children; Phillip Tyler Jones II, Peyton Jones, and Ryan Merritt II, brother, Floyd, (Kathy), many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Michael and Kermit, and his sister; Judge Shirley Hunter.
