

On September 7, 1940 in Boling, Texas, Mattie M. Moses began her earthly journey. She was born to the union of A. B. Shaw and Mary Moses "Susie-Q" as she was fondly known, was educated in the public schools of Wharton County, Texas. She furthered her education by attending Prairie View A&M University and UTMB in Galveston. After moving to Galveston, she united with Mount Moriah Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Dr. E. L. Gates. Later moving to Texas City, she united with First Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. F. M. Johnson. In later years, she united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor L. D. Johnson. She was a loving and caring person who was willing to help whenever she could. She worked as a Home Health Worker until her retirement and was a former member of Rutha M. Hicks Chapter #29 Order of Eastern Star Norris Wright Cuney Grand Chapter. On the morning of May 12, 2013, she quietly slipped into the arms of her Heavenly Father. She is preceded in death by her parents, A. B. Shaw, Mary Moses; her husband, Tom Lewis; and three sisters, Joyce Moses, Linda Moses and Ruby Lee Armstrong. She leaves cherished memories of her life in the hearts of her children, Sonia Moses-Reid, Mary Wanda Moses (Edward), Willie Anthony Moses (Dionndra), Patrick Moses (Rachel), Keith Moses and Kevin Moses; two sisters, Delilah Moses, Rita Lynn Moses; three brothers, Terry Moses (Victoria), Nathaniel Moses (Gloria) and Butch Moses (Gwendolyn); 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a Godson, Jimmy Brown, Jr.; special nephew, Randy Ramson; close friends, Maggie Roberts and Eddie Jean Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints"
