Memories are etched in the minds of all who know and love Brenda Gail Moore Hawkins. Her life’s chapters are multidimensional and rich…Brenda Gail was a gift that was given to Isaac Williams and Nita Williams on November 23, 1951. However, in God’s divine will, the gift was transferred and entrusted in the union of James Moore and Nita Moore. He loved and cared for her as his very own. Brenda delighted in being the ‘big sister’ to her younger siblings. She was blessed to have Christian parents, therefore her early spiritual journey was nourished as she accepted Jesus as her personal Saviour and was baptized at the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of Reverend B. W. McWashington. She was educated in the public schools of La Marque, graduating with the Class of 1970 from La Marque High School. She received an associate degree from Galveston College. After graduating college, Brenda begin her career as a Lab Tech with Sterling Chemical. Her career would span twenty-seven years before her retirement. Her expertise as a Lab Tech was evident through her diligent service given daily; she had a fulfilling and rewarding career. Brenda met her soul mate, Walter Hawkins, Sr., and they became one flesh. They remained as husband and wife until the Lord called her home. During their twenty-five years of marriage, Brenda and Walter nurtured and loved their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. She delighted in being a wonderful, wife, daughter, mother, sister, granny, aunt, cousin and Godmother. But even in the joy she found in fulfilling all her roles, she was equally as passionate about being a member at Neighborhood Missionary Baptist Church under the divine Spiritual leadership of Pastor Joseph E. Franklin. Brenda worked faithfully with the Ushers Ministry, Ministers & Deacons Wives, Pastor Support Ministry or wherever she was needed. She was a great supporter of the Youth at the church and in her community. She loved to support the La Marque Cougars. Brenda knew the power of prayer, although facing health challenges, she re-mained steadfast and unmovable with her commitment to her church, family and community. This commitment was rewarded when she received the Mainland United Task Force Martin Luther King Jr. Unsung Hero Award. We all prayed that God would heal her on this side, yet on July 15, 2018, God granted her total healing as He called her unto to Himself. Waiting in heaven to greet her as she made her arrival were those who had an integral role in her life, her God given father, James Moore, father Isaac Williams; daughter, Janisha Flemon and sister, Marilyn Feast. Although she will be profoundly missed, she leaves in God’s care; loving and devoted husband, Walter Hawkins, Sr., beloved mother, Nita Moore; children, Sheila Ratliff (Charles), Walter Hawkins, Jr. (Jasmine), Rufus “Lee” Hawkins, Jacob “Esau” Hawkins (Keenia) and Richard Hawkins; siblings, Larry Moore, Deborah Moore, Janice Spry, Lynita Dupree and Tasha Lockett; grandchildren, Jashel Washington, Yo’Vanni Hawkins, Derria Eden, Deja Eden, Kiara Hawkins, Nyah Hawkins, Ja’Lisia Hawkins; great-grandchildren, Scotty Duke & Thomas Duke; God-children, Tashiera Jennings, Bianca Franklin; God-brother, Timothy Wayne Parker, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and endearing friends.
