

Mr. Otis Jenkins was born on the 8th day of January, 1941 as the 11th child to Felix Jenkins and Savannah Barnes-Jenkins in Seabrook, Texas. He was educated in Dickinson, Texas and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1960. From there, he went on to attend Texas Southern University until he was severely injured his sophomore year. He was the owner/operator of Jenkins and Son Concrete Construction. He constructed many projects for major companies of the Harris and Galveston County areas. He taught and employed many young men of the community. He also contributed to the community with his BBQ catering services, his biggest customer being Houston Health and Science Center. He was baptized at an early age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Shephard where he presently served as an usher. In February 1964, Otis married the love of his life, Roberta Miles, a unconditional love that would endure for 52 years. Otis was an avid race-car fan, driver, and mechanic until the birth of his son, Otis Jenkins Jr. On Saturday, January 23, 2016 God called Otis to rest. He was preceded in death by; his parents, Felix ad Savannah Jenkins; his son, Otis Jenkins Jr.; his sisters, Annie Mae Jenkins, Bobbie Jean Barnett and Gertrude Rollins; and his brothers, Chester, J.D., Goree, Merland, and Leslie Jenkins. Left to honor memories of his life are: his loving wife, Roberta Jenkins; grandchildren, Ashley Jenkins, Reesa Rilliet, and Greg Harris; his sister, Irene and husband, George Goffney; brothers, R.D. and wife, Ruby Jenkins and Morris and wife, Annette Jenkins; sister-in-law. Jean Jenkins; his best friend, Emery and wife, Winnie Allen. He also left a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. Otis’ love of family and family ties made him the glue of the Jenkins family and kept the Jenkins family reunion going for 35 years. He will truly be missed not only by the family, but by the whole Dickinson community.
