

Bob "BJ" Chapman, 82, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, May 29 at the Pickering House. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. Bob was born November 19, 1929 in Gallia County, Ohio. He will be remembered as a loving father, a friend to many, and a man of integrity. He retired from American Electric Power and was a US Korean War veteran; he loved his country. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lancaster. His church and his church family were very important to him. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends, going camping, and taking trips to the beach. Bob’s sense of humor and love of life was easily recognized and greatly appreciated. He will be sadly missed.
Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlene, and his five children: Jay of Canton, Ohio, Marsha (Dan) Shetler of Pittsburgh, PA, Greg (Kristi) of Villa Rica, GA, Edana (J. Dale) Curtis of Greensboro, NC, and Beth of Zanesville, Ohio; grandchildren Bryant (Leanna) Shetler of Pittsburgh, PA, Emily Shetler of Greensboro, NC, Justin (Cassie) Chapman of Birmingham, AL, Mackenzie and Chloe Chapman of Villa Rica, GA, Lindsey (Matt) Koonce of Wilmington, NC and Joseph Curtis of Wilmington, NC. He is also survived by his aunt, Clarinell Green, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mervin and Esther Marie and brother, Mervin Eugene.
Calling hours will be held today, May 31 at Halteman-Fett Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1 at 10:00am at First United Methodist Church, Lancaster. A graveside service will follow at 3:00pm at Kirkland Memorial Gardens, Point Pleasant, WV.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church-Crossroads, 163 E. Wheeling Street and FairHoPe Hospice, 282 Sells Road, both in Lancaster, Ohio.
