Dan L Milbaugh

November 13, 1946February 8, 2021

Danny Lauren Milbaugh, 74, of Lancaster, Ohio died unexpectedly but peacefully on February 8, 2021.

Danny was born in Lancaster, Ohio to George T. Milbaugh and Mary C. Milbaugh (Baker). He was the youngest of four brothers. His parents and brothers – William Milbaugh, Robert Milbaugh, and Thomas Milbaugh—all precede him in death.

Danny graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964. After graduation, he began studying history at Ohio University with the intention of becoming a history teacher. He paused his studies to work, and it wasn’t long before Uncle Sam had other plans for him. Danny was drafted into the United States Army in October 1966. The prospects of never seeing action and news of the deaths of hometown soldiers compelled him to volunteer for the Vietnam War where he served in the 9th Infantry Division as a helipad guard and in the 9th Signal Battalion as a radio operator from 1967 – 1968.

Danny faced the challenge of transitioning back into civilian life during an extremely tumultuous time in American history. Instead of returning to fanfare like veterans before him, he and countless other Vietnam veterans were met with anti-war sentiment and hostility that affected them the rest of their lives. Danny tried to find solace in music, nature and his friends.

Danny began an apprenticeship in mold making which became his lifelong career. He married Patricia DiGiandomenico in 1969 with whom he shares one child, their daughter Kira. Danny was a proud son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He loved to hunt and fish, and was Mr. Bass Ohio 1978. He was a member of First Methodist Church of Lancaster.

Danny leaves behind his wife of 51 years Patricia Milbaugh, daughter Kira Hertzfeld (Shawn Hertzfeld) and granddaughter Rylee Hertzfeld who he loved dearly. Danny’s remains will be cremated and will be honored on February 19, 2021 at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home from 2PM-4PM and at his favorite fishing hole in the Spring. Military Honors will be taking place on Friday at 4PM.

The family is requesting donations to the Vietnam Veterans of America in lieu of flowers.

Patty, So sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I remember him at family reunions as always being so friendly. He liked our little Doug at the time. Too bad we let time get in the way of keeping in contact. You will be in our prayers. "Cousin" Jeanie
